as of today President Musharraf has ceased to exist as the president of this country. it might be music to the ears of those people who had become against him. for some, and they are few in numbers, that is just bad news.
I was not much of a fan of the guy but still i feel sorry for the guy. in the worst of the times most of the people who had earlier reaped the benefits from his presidency. if you ever wanted to see a live show of rats leaving the sinking ship, that was it.
some might say that it was his own faults that did his undoing. but one thing must be remembered. he was a soldier and not a politician. so his first mistake was when he entered politics. politics was never his arena. he thought that people who supported him would stay with him forever; they did not.
his second was his unabashed support for the American policies. like so many of our powerful leaders he forgot that power flowed from the people of the country, not from the corridors of white house. by alienating his people he quickly lost support and thus the moral reason to preside. when the time came for the Americans to support him, they were not there. Condi told it in public that America was not in a mood to give him any political asylum. so much for the “indispensable ally”. it shows that he was dispensable after all.
his other suicidal move was the sacking of judges, twice. this made the people come out on streets. as it has happened so often in history when people come out, guillotines fall too. this was no exception. heads had to roll, the final one being that of the president. ( ofcourse i used all that metaphorically)
but the question is what will happen after that. call me a cynic but to tell you the truth nothing will change. nothing ever changes in this country. some other idiot will take his place. and before we know it, we might yet see another coup. there are no signs yet, but here coups are a quick, swift affair. they just happen.
